What are Hand-Tied Extensions?

What are hand-tied extensions?

“Hand-tied extensions” is an all-encompassing term that describes attaching a weft or “curtain” of hair to natural hair.  First, the stylist will create a foundation of silicone beads on the client’s natural hair.  Then, the stylist will sew the hand-tied wefts onto the beaded foundation, securely attaching the hand-tied weft to the natural hair.

How are the extensions applied?

The wefts are hand-sewn which creates a strong, thin weft when compared to other methods of application. They are flat, flexible, and lay close to the clients’ scalp giving a more natural look without feeling bulky. Additionally, this makes them more comfortable to wear and touch. They resemble the final look of tape-in extensions and consist of a full, blunt perimeter; never stringy or sparse.
Our stylists Brittany and Katelynn recently attended a certification class for Aqua Hand-Tied Extensions. Below is an overview of how they are applied along with pictures of each step. Brittany applied this set to our assistant at our Chagrin Falls location

How long is the initial application?

Generally between 2 to 3 hours to apply a full head of hand-tied weft extensions.

How long do hand-tied extensions last?

Up to 12 months if properly cared for (i.e. move-up appointments, proper brushing, use of correct shampoo/conditioner/styling products & tools). We require our hair extensions clients to invest in Aqua Extensions Shampoo & Conditioner in order to maintain the quality of their hair and prevent moisture loss.

What is the maintenance?

These extensions must be moved up every 6 to 8 weeks.  This appointment takes around 1 ½ – 2 hours to complete. Your stylist will remove the sewn thread on your rows.  She will then reapply new beads and sew the weft back onto each row.

How do I find hand-tied hair extensions near me?

We are local to the Northeast Ohio area. We have 2 convenient locations to choose from; Chagrin Falls and Concord. In addition, you can look up certified stylists by visiting the extensions’ brand website (most have locators where you can enter your zip code and find someone who is certified to offer the service).
